How to Deal with Bulk Mail Subscriptions of Removed Users

Introduction:
Often, situation arise when users who are removed from Exchange, receive large amounts of spam, bulk mail, list server subscriptions, etc...  Also, in some cases, organizations may not want to disclose the departure of employees.  The following covers methods of dealing with this situation.

Solutions:

To simply, discard all incoming internet mail, create an empty distribution list, and assign it the smtp addresses of all departed employees.

To preserve incoming mail, create a public folder for each departed employee, and assign default user, contributor role, with "folder visible" right removed.  Use the Exchange Administrator program to assign the departed user's smtp address or addresses to the public folder.  This can be done with a single public folder and the use of custom views to organize the mail items in some meaningful way.
